How often do you find yourself in a meeting or class while also scrolling social media, meeting the needs of your children, or thinking about something else in general? Can you remember a time when you had a plan of action for a task, only to find yourself splitting attention between two tasks or working on something else entirely? Focusing on multiple things is a necessity at times, but in most cases, it makes us less productive and increases our stress levels. I’ve spent the last several years studying and evaluating multitasking and switch-tasking habits as well as tricks, tips, and methods to maintain focus. Now I’d like to share that with you. This session will introduce the concepts of switch-tasking as compared to multitasking, how to recognize the difference, and several ways to maintain focus in an ever distracting and fast paced world.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the difference between switch-tasking and multi-tasking.
Assess how, when, and why we lose focus on tasks.
Develop strategies to minimize distractions and maintain attention.
