For many students, being part of SWE is a highlight of their undergraduate experience, offering valuable professional development through events and conferences. However, many sections/affiliates struggle to self-fund, limiting access to these opportunities. This session will explore how Georgia Tech’s SWE section created sustainable funding through revamped industry relations and technical development events. Attendees will learn about SWE’s RISE framework (Reflective, Innovative, Strategic, Engaging) and how it turns traditional info sessions into interactive experiences. These events, like the Tesla car-part workshop, allow companies to assess critical thinking and creativity in real-world scenarios, helping students make deeper connections with recruiters. Attendees will analyze impact data, refine event ideas, and develop strategies to implement similar events in their own chapters, helping to reduce financial barriers and expand outreach. By the end, they will leave with a roadmap for hosting high-impact events that foster industry connections and empower their SWE communities.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize the challenges of traditional networking sessions.
Describe the RISE framework and its role transforming industry events.
Construct a roadmap with professional events tailored to section/affiliate and corporate needs.
