So, You’re the Only Woman in the Room. Now What?

Being the only woman in the room can be daunting whether you’re a recent grad or 15 years into your career, at a manufacturing site, lab, corporate, or even in the classroom. While more and more women are entering the field of engineering, there are many spaces where you might be one of few or the only woman. The panel will discuss personal experiences and tactics for navigating coworkers’ personalities, biases, as well as microaggressions and harassment from internships, first job, to mid-career. Knowing how you can advocate for yourself, find trusted coworkers, and navigate uncomfortable situations can help you thrive in a male-dominated workspace. Drawing from real-life experiences and advice from the book “Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office,” this panel will provide high quality advice to empower women in male-dominated workspaces.
