Have you ever felt reliant on technology to get around or wanted to explore more geographic independence? Together, we'll learn tips/tricks to enhance your navigational intuition! Longitudinal and cross-sectional studies have shown that lesser lifetime GPS usage correlates with improved spatial memory, navigation strategy, map-drawing abilities, and number of landmarks noticed (Dahmani & Bohbot 2020). Whether in personal or professional settings, knowing our way around places old and new can come in handy, especially when there is a time crunch balancing multiple aspects of life in our schedules. In this session, we’ll unpack secrets of how to tell east from west and north from south, combat traffic, help the environment via public transit, and more! You will walk (or run, or bus, or train!) away from this talk with more direction to guide yourself and others to SWE events, work responsibilities, and anything else your time-efficient, superhero heart desires!
Learning Objectives:
Recognize cardinal directions by piecing together context clues from landmarks.
Practice getting from place to place more efficiently and sustainably.
Develop confidence in guiding others to a safe/desired destination.
