Ruth Brown is Chief Engineer Bridges & Structures at Norfolk Southern Railway with responsiblity for the safe operations of all NS’ bridges and structures and application the Bridge Management Program. She graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Civil Engineering in 2008 and became a PE in 2013. She is an active member of NS’ employee resource groups Young NS, NS Volunteers, TiES LGBTQ+ and Women in NS. Since 2008, Ruth has been an active member of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and currently Chairs Committee 15 – Steel Structures. She has been a mentor for many years while becoming first female to serve in multiple positions at NS and her chair position with AREMA Committee 15. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, baking, adventures, hiking with her dog and being an aunt.
