Xiaoyao Gao is an R&D Software Engineer at ABB where she develops sustainable technologies that keep the world in motion.

Xiaoyao has a passion for making things and understanding how things are made. Driven by her curiosity, she began her career with the ABB Discovery Rotational Program in 2021. There, she gained expertise in all things product development, becoming equally comfortable in the R&D lab and the manufacturing floor. Now, she creates embedded software for electric drives: motor control devices used everywhere from factory conveyors to skyscraper HVAC.

Xiaoyao earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University and is pursuing her M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Purdue. She seeks to empower others in STEM through her leadership in the ABB Asians ERG and FIRST Robotics.
