Ann Colwell is a recognized leader within ExxonMobil and across the global energy industry. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado in 1997, and then began her career with Chevron as a process engineer supporting several chemical facilities in the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Ann joined ExxonMobil Research & Engineering in 2006, and shortly thereafter transferred to the Chalmette Refinery to support post Katrina hurricane activities. During her time at the refinery, she led several large site improvement initiatives as well as taking on the role of Project Development Supervisor.
In 2009 Ann moved back to the Americas Area Engineering Office where she held the roles of Joliet Flare Gas Recovery Project Manager, Project Development Section Head, and Project Development Advisor. In 2014 Ann moved to Baton Rouge as the Regional Projects Manager, followed by a move to Singapore in August 2017 to lead the Asia Pacific Regional Projects Centre. In mid-2019 Ann became the Venture Executive for the multibillion Chemicals & Refining Integrated Singapore Project and led the team through many challenges including the COVID19 pandemic. With many challenges including labor limitations, the project was paused and Ann relocated back to Texas in mid-2021 to take over the multibillion Beaumont Light Atmospheric Distillation Expansion (BLADE) project, becoming the first woman to lead a major expansion in Beaumont history. While supporting BLADE Project, Ann was also the Senior Project Manager for a multibillion Permian Crude Venture Project from 2022 to 2023. She also acted as the liaison for Joint Ventures, the ExxonMobil Beaumont Complex, and the ExxonMobil Pipeline Company. In 2003 Ann became the Senior Project Manager of Gasoline to Olefins, Lubricant and Distillate Project that currently in the engineering phase. This large venture includes three independent, industry leading refinery reconfiguration projects in Baytown, Beaumont, and Baton Rouge to produce more diesel and base stocks for lubricant application.
Ann is a strong advocate for women and global talent, leveraging her influence and authority to launch numerous programs within ExxonMobil and the surrounding communities to promote talent development and create opportunities. Ann has also been a long-standing member of SWE and advocate for STEM and the value of I&D through both internal roles as the ExxonMobil SWE executive sponsor and external engagements including participation in the SWE CPC.
Ann is married to a follow Chemical Engineer that also works for ExxonMobil and has two adult children, a lovable doodle, and two feisty Bengal cats that are always getting into trouble. Ann loves to take pictures and travel, and always finds time for a good book or dinner with friends. Her photographs of the new project facilities have been featured in many internal and external publications, and she enjoys exploring the various business travel locations with her teammates as cultural awareness is just as important as technical discussions.
