Debra Kimberling, SWE Fellow, is president of the San Diego County Engineering Council. A 35-year SWE San Diego member, she is a SWE Distinguished Service Award recipient and has held many positions throughout the society. She is a founding chair of the SWE Late Career and Retiree Affinity Group and the SWE Legends project. Her research into historic SWE hidden figures began in 2016. She is an editor of the book “Women Engineering Legends 1952 - 1976: SWE Achievement Award Recipients”. Kimberling is a retired aerospace engineer with experience in academia, government and industry; she has worked at Solar Turbines (Caterpillar), General Dynamics Space Systems Division, Naval Ocean Systems Center and as a professor at Purdue University. She has engineering degrees from University of Washington and Arizona State University. She is a member of the SWE Public Policy AG; she has been successfully advocating for women’s health awareness.
