Valeria Ochoa-Herrera is a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Ecuador, and an Adjunct professor in Environmental Sciences and Engineering Department at UNC-Chapel Hill, USA. She is currently the Environmental Office Coordinator at USFQ. Previously, she was the Dean of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology at Universidad del Rosario, Colombia and the Vice-dean of the College of Science and Engineering at USFQ, Ecuador. Valeria is a founding member of the Society of Women Engineers Chapter USFQ (SWE-USFQ) and WISE-USFQ. She has created a multidisciplinary research group focus on mitigation and remediation of contaminated effluents in vulnerable areas in Ecuador (Highlands/Galápagos/Amazonia) and Colombia (San Andres) and an applied research group oriented to the development of innovative and sustainable remediation strategies. She has conducted research projects in water quality with emphasis on emerging contaminants, bioremediation of domestic and industrial effluents (mining) and sustainability.
