Have you ever felt like you were not taken seriously because of the way you dressed or overdressed at work? Have you conformed your work attire to fit in with your coworkers’ or worried about what others will think? Dressing for work is tricky and the fear of being judged forces people to suppress who they really are. This session will discuss appearance-based biases, being authentic in the workplace and embracing femininity in the work environment, especially in science and engineering. In the end, it aims to show that the freedom to dress in ways that better reflect who we really are will lead to equity and moreover create workplace cultures that are rooted in authenticity, belonging, and inclusion. This session won the Best in Show Award in the SWE Local Munich 2024 by popular votes.
